Good devices from 650 euros: These are the best notebooks with large displays

Stiftung Warentest tested 14 current notebooks with displays up to 17 inches in size. Only a very expensive device is very good, the cheapest good laptop costs 650 euros, even a sustainable test candidate is convincing.

Large notebooks are not necessarily something for on the go, but they take up little space at home and can replace conventional desktop PCs with many connections, high performance and powerful displays. Stiftung Warentest tested 14 current devices, twelve of which performed well, with the most expensive laptop winning the test.

With a quality rating of 1.5, the Apple MacBook Pro with a 16-inch screen is the only notebook that has received a very good rating - no other laptop has so far achieved this in the product test. The testers praise the extremely powerful chip, the brilliant display and a very good battery performance. With an average online price of 2550 euros, the MacBook Pro is also by far the most expensive device among the test candidates.

The best Windows laptop and thus the runner-up is the LG Gram, which costs around 1250 euros and received an overall rating of 1.8. Its 17-inch display offers a very high resolution, it is powerful and extremely durable. Despite its size, with a weight of only 1.3 kilograms, it can also be used on the go. The only drawback: the camera delivers blurred images.

Users who don't need very high performance for video editing or other graphics- or compute-intensive applications can get away with it for less. The cheapest good laptop is the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ITL6 for about 650 euros, which achieved a quality rating of 2.4. The testers attest to its brisk working speed and praise its large 1 terabyte memory. However, they only rated the battery performance as satisfactory.

The Medion Akoya E16401 lasts longer. It costs around 675 euros and received an overall rating of 2.2. Positive: You can easily change the SSD memory with it. Negative: The camera isn't that great, but the image quality is sufficient for video calls.

The Acer Aspire 5 A515, which is available for around 700 euros, achieved the same quality rating. It is one of the few laptops that still has a LAN connection for wired Internet. The notebook is otherwise well equipped.

If you value sustainability, you can also get a good device at a reasonable price. The Framework laptop costs 1070 euros and received an overall rating of 2.3. Not only is it powerful and it has a good display. It is freely configurable as a kit and also offers users the option of freely selecting four connections using plug-in cards and changing the SSD memory. The manufacturer also offers spare parts for repairs. However, the framework laptop only performed satisfactorily in terms of battery performance and handling.
