With the Magic 5 Pro, Honor is presenting one of the few highlights of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this year. Among other things, the smartphone is the new number 1 in the influential camera comparison by DxOMark.
Now that most of the important manufacturers are presenting new smartphones at their own events or only via press releases, there are only a few exciting premieres at the Mobile World Congress (MWC). Honor took advantage of this gap and launched its Magic 5 fleet in Barcelona. The flagship is the Pro version, which costs 1200 euros and is supposed to outperform top dog cars such as the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the Google Pixel 7 Pro or the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra with high-end technology.
As far as the camera comparison is concerned, the Chinese have apparently already managed to leave the top-class competition behind. The Honor Magic 5 Pro has three snaps that can take pictures with up to 50 megapixels (MP): a main camera with an aperture of f/1.6, an ultra wide-angle camera (f/2.0) and a periscope telephoto camera (f/ 3.0) with 3.5x optical magnification.
With this equipment, the device managed the feat of completing the test course of the French experts from DxOMark with a new record of 152 points. The Huawei Mate 50 Pro follows in second place with 149 points, while the Google Pixel 7 Pro and the Honor Magic 4 Ultimate, i.e. the predecessor of the new leader, occupy third place with 147 points each.
The Magic 5 Pro owes its first place to the excellent photos, for which no other smartphone has been able to collect more points in DxOMark. In detail, the device received the top ratings for its artificial bokeh and zoom shots.
The experts from DxOMark also found the videos to be strong, but the iPhone 14 Pro duo retained the crown in this discipline. The Apple flagships also produce just as good an artificial depth of field in portrait shots as the Chinese champion.
The other features of the Honor Magic 5 Pro are also impressive. It has a 6.81-inch OLED display (LTPO) with a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hertz (Hz). It's said to be able to shine brightly up to a whopping 1800 nits and, with a pixel density of 461ppi, is very sharp for a screen of this size.
Like many current top smartphones, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 chip (2nd generation). The processor has an impressive 12 gigabytes (GB) of RAM (LPDDR5X) on its side, the flash memory (UFS 4.0) is 512 GB in size. Honor has also not skimped on the battery with a capacity of 5100 milliampere hours (mAh), Google's current Android 13 is used as the operating system.
