Work and exercise: Acer introduces the bike desk

Computer manufacturer Acer is presenting a device at the CES technology fair that is intended to make office work healthier and more economical. The eKinekt BD3 is a combination exercise bike and desk, with the generated energy you can operate and charge a laptop and other devices.

The Techniker Krankenkasse, among others, recommends that you move about a quarter of the working time, stand a further quarter and only sit the rest of the time. In everyday office life, however, this can only rarely be realized, which is why many people sit unhealthily for long periods of time. A clever solution could be the eKinekt BD3 that Acer presented at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. With the device you can work and train at the same time, because it is a combination of an exercise bike and a desk.

The multifunction bicycle table (Muffati) basically offers two modes: In working mode, the table top moves closer to the seat, so that an upright position when typing is ensured even while driving. In sport mode, the tabletop is moved further forward from the seat, leaving more room for cycling, similar to a regular exercise bike. So there is more legroom and the pedaling power can be increased.

The energy released during training is not wasted. The eKinekt BD3 has two USB-A ports and one USB-C slot that can charge laptops and other devices simultaneously. An hour of constant cycling at 60 rpm on the bike desk generates up to 75 watt hours of electricity.

The height of the seat and table can be individually adjusted for people of different heights. And because drinking enough is also important, the eKinekt BD3 also has a cup holder in addition to a bag hook. An associated app provides real-time information on ride time, distance and speed, among other things, and shows the estimated number of calories burned and the number of watts generated while pedaling.

The Acer eKinekt BD3 is expected to be on the market in Germany in June, the recommended retail price is around 1000 euros.
