A 44-year-old woman is charged with assault after allegedly stabbing a 16-year-old girl who hugged her boyfriend in the West Seattle Junction, court documents say.

The teen was walking with a friend in the 4700 block of California Avenue Southwest Feb. 12 when Janet Lee Tilley and her boyfriend approached them on the street, Seattle police reports say.

Tilley's boyfriend gave the teen a hug, which allegedly prompted Tilley to yell at the girl.

The girl's friend tried to keep her out of Tilley's reach, but Tilley reportedly got around him and chased her down a small corridor to a business, court documents indicate.

When the girl was trapped, Tilley allegedly brandished a pen knife and stabbed the teen in the shoulder.

Tilley and her boyfriend left the area before officers arrive, reports say.

Officers found Tilley later and detectives say that she admitted to stabbing the girl, but only after the girl reportedly armed her self with a broken bottle.

Cops recovered the knife from Tilley's bag and found blood on the blade, reports indicate.

Tilley's boyfriend also allegedly told cops that Tilley grew angry at the girl for an unknown reason and started to push and punch her.

The teen suffered a stab wound to her right shoulder that required an overnight stay at Harborview Medical Center, according to Seattle police.

Tilley is charged with second-degree assault in King County Superior Court.
