Investigators say the woman, in her 60s, was hit in front of Highline High School. At the time of the crash, a musical was just about to start in the performing arts center nearby.
It's unclear if the woman who died was trying to attend the event.
"It's horrible," said Laurie Fuller, who lives down the street. "You're hurting a human being. Be a human being yourself. Stop and find out if that person is hurt. Help them."
Authorities are searching for a newer silver or grey sedan, said Cindi West, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office. The sedan likely has right front end damage.
Authorities have not released a description of the suspect.
Highline High School is in the 200 block of South 152nd Street.
Police are investigating.
