Chef Charlie Palmer said the pairing of pork and pinot is crazy good. That’s why he created “Pigs & Pinot,” a weekend wine-tasting event to showcase some of the world’s finest pinot noirs coupled with a pork pairing. The 12th annual celebration is March 17 and 18, with a range of events at the Healdsburg Hotel. (www.healdsburghotel.com). With an eye to Pigs & Pinot, here are some local pinot noirs you’ll find irresistible.

Benovia, 2014 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, 14.1%, $38. Striking notes of red fruit – Bing cherry, red raspberry and cranberry – coupled with bright acid. Hint of anise and white pepper. Finishes spicy. Impressive.

Arista, 2014 Mononi Vineyard, Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, 14.9%, $75. This pinot noir is drop dead gorgeous, with deep cherry flavors and notes of cola and smoke. It’s generous, packed with fruit, a touch earthy and has great intensity.

William Selyem, 2014 Westside Road Neighbors, Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, 13.8%, $72. Aromas and flavors of black raspberry, cedar and white pepper. Crisp acid. Snappy spice. Lovely.

Garry Farrell, 2014 Gap’s Crown Vineyard, Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County Pinot Noir, 14.2%, $75. An earthy, smoky pinot with bright fruit – cherry and red raspberry. Herbs and mineral in the mix. Crisp acid. Lingering finish.

Marimar Estate, 2014 La Masia Don Miguel Vineyard, Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, 14.2%, $49. A lively pinot with a great range – black cherry, plum and clove. Rich tannins. Lush texture and nice length. Smart.
