The Turkish military has bombed the Kurdish PKK in northern Iraq. According to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, senior members could have been met.

According to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkish air Force has attacked a meeting of Kurdish Workers ' Party PKK in norrn Iraq. Senior PKK militants were likely to be hit, Erdogan said to Channel 7.

The target of attack was thus an area in Kandil mountains near border between Iraq and Iran. The Turkish government suspects that re are leaders of banned PKK. In vicinity, according to government data, Turkish soldiers have penetrated around 30 kilometres to Iraqi territory.

Erdoğan said recent air raid was a very important meeting place for PKK. "We do not have any results yet, but it is a fact that y have been taken."

The Turkish leadership has recently repeatedly threatened a ground offensive in Kandil Mountains. He talked about this with Iranian President Hassan Ruhani, Erdoğan said. Both agreed that security in region must be safeguarded. Turkey has also been advising Iraq on a possible Turkish offensive in Kandil Mountains. Erdogan said his country would now wait for new government to be formed in Iraq after election in May.

An offensive by Turkish military against PKK in DenKandil-Bergen would be its third cross-border Einsatzseit 2016. The first two offensives were kurdischenKämpfern in north of Syria.
