Bavaria: Missionary sisters take care of the Birkenstein pilgrimage site

Fischbachau (dpa / lby) - A new future for the Upper Bavarian place of pilgrimage Birkenstein: After the departure of the Order of the Poor School Sisters, the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising takes over the building. Four sisters from the congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Most Holy Redeemer will live there from April and take care of the pilgrimage site. The archbishop's vicar general, Christoph Klingan, announced on Thursday that the archdiocese was very grateful that the religious community was taking on this service.

The Birkenstein pilgrimage chapel above Fischbachau (Miesbach district) was built in 1710. In the center is a Marian image from the 15th century. The monastery is connected to the chapel. According to the archdiocese, the four missionary sisters will first move into the guest house because the monastery building needs to be renovated.
