A 63-year-old man died Sunday following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 near Tower Road near Northfield, according to Illinois State Police.

Miahailo Bjelopetrovich of Grayslake was driving alone in a Buick passenger car at 2 p.m. near the southbound ramp to Tower Road when his car went off onto the right shoulder "for unknown reasons," according to a police statement.

The car hit the concrete bridge support, and the impact caused it to go left across all lanes of traffic until it hit the left concrete barrier, according to the statement. Bjelopetrovich was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car, it said.

Bjelopetrovich, of the 33000 block of North Lake Shore Drive, Grayslake, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
