Thuringia: 1239 refugees in the initial reception center in Suhl

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Shortly before the end of the time-out for the distribution of refugees to the municipalities, 1239 people are accommodated in the initial reception center in Suhl - there is space for a total of around 1400 people. 39 refugees were taken to an accommodation in Eisenberg, as a spokesman for the state administration office said on Friday on request. The "Freie Wort" had previously reported on possible bottlenecks in the Suhl facility. The background is a suspension of the distribution of refugees in the municipalities between December 22nd and January 3rd.

Thuringia's Migration Minister Dirk Adams (Greens) had announced that in the event of an impending overcrowding at the facility in Suhl, new emergency accommodation in Hermsdorf in eastern Thuringia would be used. It should be ready within 48 hours if there are signs of high occupancy rates.

The spokesman for the state administration office said that there are currently no signs that the emergency accommodation in Hermsdorf will be used at the weekend. This will be discussed again on Monday. In the meantime, the accommodation in Eisenberg can be used, where there is still room for other refugees. In addition, the distribution of around 100 people to the municipalities is planned for the coming week.
