The JBL Live Pro 2 are earphones that you will soon like. They sound very good, offer effective active noise cancellation, are comfortable, practical and extremely durable. Because they also cost comparatively little, they are a real price-performance tip.
The agony of choice when buying wireless earphones with active noise cancellation (ANC) is getting bigger and bigger, the range of high-quality devices is constantly growing. Exciting newcomers are the JBL Live Pro 2 TWS, which put pressure on the upper class with an excellent price-performance ratio.
The 4.8 gram light earphones sit very comfortably in the ear, even after several hours you hardly feel them. Nevertheless, they keep their position quite stable, which makes the JBL Live Pro 2 TWS good training partners as long as the movements are not too violent. It can also pour heavily, because the earphones are waterproof according to protection class IPX5.
A prerequisite for a good fit are suitable silicone attachments, but the selection is not exactly extensive with only three sizes. Because of the Airpod-like design, the plugs don't have to be stuck in the ear, it's important that they seal the ear canal well. You can test whether this is the case with the associated app.
The application also convinces with a number of other functions. This includes an extensive equalizer and the option of having the ear canal scanned for optimal noise suppression. You can determine the ANC strength yourself or you can choose adaptive noise cancellation. This means that it automatically adapts to the noise level in the environment.
That works great. Street noise, train noise or other constant noise are significantly reduced, in the office the earphones muffle voices or clattering keyboards. The noise suppression only has slight problems in strong winds. Overall, the ANC is at a high level, shows very little inherent noise and does not have an audible effect on the sound.
That would also be a shame, because the JBL Live Pro 2 TWS sound excellent with 11 millimeter drivers. They are based on powerful, elastic basses. However, the mids remain dominant and well defined. The highs sometimes seem a bit shy, but they are crystal clear and provide many details. Due to the stereo stage, which is quite wide for earphones, the sound also appears pleasantly open and airy
Basically, the sound of the earphones is warm, which will please most users. If not, there are several preset modes available in the equalizer or you can customize the sound.
The earphones do not support high-resolution Bluetooth codecs, although JBL does not provide any information on this. In the streaming everyday life of most users, that probably doesn't matter either. It is more important that two devices can be connected at the same time, for example to switch easily between a notebook and a smartphone.
In addition to ANC, the JBL Live Pro 2 TWS also offers an attention mode in which external noise is amplified. For short conversations, you can lower the volume and amplify voices.
Unfortunately, you can only select the different modes in the app, gestures on the earphones don't give that away. It's a shame, because otherwise you can regulate everything via the touch surfaces and also partially customize the controls. Wearing detection, which automatically pauses playback when an earphone is removed, is also on board. However, an update could remedy this, for example by allowing the choice between digital assistant and ANC modes with long touches.
The earphones also offer good sound with effective suppression of disruptive ambient noise during telephone calls. It is pleasant here that you can adjust how loudly you hear your own voice.
The endurance of the earphones is outstanding. According to JBL, they last up to ten hours, which was largely confirmed in the test. The compact, 48 gram charging box has reserves for up to 30 additional hours and can be recharged inductively. 15 minutes in the case is enough for exhausted earphones to be able to play music again for around four hours.
The JBL Live Pro 2 TWS cost around 150 euros. They are not a bargain, but because of their high quality and the strong features, they are a clear price-performance recommendation.
