120 euros: More money for young people in the voluntary social year

Young people in the voluntary social year (FSJ) can receive 120 euros more per month in Berlin from September. "The sponsors can apply for a monthly grant of 120 euros per volunteer," said the Senate Department for Education on Friday. Applications for the subsidy can now be submitted to the Senate Administration. However, social security fees and a processing fee would be deducted from the additional amount.

According to the education administration, around 2,000 young people between the ages of 16 and 27 complete an FSJ in Berlin every year. The monthly remuneration is between 300 and 350 euros, depending on the provider. The FSJ usually lasts 12 months and can be a maximum of 18 months. The monthly state subsidy of 120 euros was decided with the new double budget.
