After MS diagnosis: Christina Applegate fears the end of her career

After losing her balance several times while filming "Dead to Me," Christina Applegate is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. The 50-year-old now fears that she will probably be seen on television for the last time in the final season of the series.

It's been almost a year since Christina Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Filming for the third season of "Dead to Me", in which Applegate plays one of the two main roles, was then paused for around five months. "I had to deal with the loss of my life, the loss of this part of me. So I needed this time," Applegate said a few days ago in an interview with the "New York Times".

The 50-year-old apparently does not assume that her state of health will remain stable. As for her future in Hollywood, the current season of Dead to Me may be her last on TV, she told Variety. The role of Jen Harding is "possibly the last one I will play," said the actress, who will be honored with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next Monday. Because of the diagnosis, she does not know "how capable" she will be in the future.

Filming for the past season was very difficult for her, Applegate continues to tell "Variety". She slept "all the time" and gained 18 kilos. Sometimes her toes and the balls of her feet became numb or she "suddenly fell over" so that she had to be placed in a wheelchair during filming. She didn't know what had happened to her, but: "I ignored it." She only received the diagnosis after the third season was completed.

She wanted to watch the final season of the Netflix series, which starts on November 17, but not. "It's too hard for me," admits Applegate. However, the production was "too important" for her not to finish filming. The 50-year-old cannot yet say what her life will look like afterwards: "It's about finding out what I'm capable of. I'm so new to it at the moment. It takes time to learn to understand and find out about this disease what causes symptoms."

The MS diagnosis wasn't the first tragedy Applegate had to deal with. In 2008 she was diagnosed with breast cancer at a very early stage. At that time, Applegate decided on a bilateral prophylactic mastectomy. In 2017, she also had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed as a precaution.
