Air Canada: a passenger falls asleep and wakes up abandoned on the plane

Strange awakening for this woman who had fallen asleep on board an Air Canada plane last week. When she opened her eyes, she found herself alone, motionless and plunged into darkness, apparently forgotten by the ground crews.

In a message shared by a friend on Air Canada's Facebook page on June 19, Tiffani Adams says she was traveling on a Quebec-Toronto flight when she fell asleep, shortly after takeoff, on her row of empty seats.

She woke up in "absolute darkness" after landing, with the plane apparently being towed out of Toronto Pearson International Airport after all passengers and crew had disembarked.

"I'm like, 'I'm having a nightmare' [because] seriously how can this happen?" she wonders. The young woman manages to briefly reach a friend on her mobile phone, before running out of battery.

"I try to focus on my breathing and control my panic attack, while I attempt to charge my phone by plugging it into every USB port I can find," she explains. Without success: the electricity in the plane was cut off.

The young woman finally unearths a flashlight in the cockpit and manages to open one of the doors of the aircraft. But fifteen meters separate it from the ground.

She then succeeds in attracting the attention of a baggage cart driver, by sending him light signals with her lamp. The man discovers Tiffani Adams at the level of the open door of the plane, the legs in the void.

"He is shocked, asks me how the hell they could have left me on the plane, she says. I ask myself the same question." Air Canada has apologized for the incident in early June, according to Tiffani Adams, who has not been able to sleep since suffering from night terrors.

The company told CTV News it was investigating the incident but declined to provide further details.
