At Le Mans hospital, 53 surgeons make a radical decision

Critical situation at Le Mans hospital. Faced with the shortage of caregivers and the closure of hospital beds, as well as the influx of patients after the closure of several emergency services in Sarthe and Mayenne, 53 surgeons from the establishment presented their administrative resignation to the Minister of Health François Braun, reports France Bleu Maine. They disengage from all their administrative functions and responsibilities, but ensure that they remain at the service of their patients.

The collective of surgeons and anesthetists of the hospital of Le Mans wrote a letter, in which are listed the various failures of their structure and of the public hospital in general. This letter was addressed to the Minister of Health, but also to the regional health agency of Pays de la Loire, to the deputies and senators of Sarthe, as well as to the mayor of Le Mans Stéphane Le Foll, who also happens to be chairman of the hospital supervisory board.

Faced with the influx of patients in 2022, medical staff found themselves under such pressure that they were forced to close conventional surgery beds and even had to deprogram 110 operations since the beginning of January. Cancer patients are affected by these deprogrammings.

Dominique Le Mèner (Les Républicains), president of the Sarthe departmental council, also wrote to the Minister of Health and sounded the alarm over a situation which "causes a loss of opportunity" for patients.
