Australia: several injured in knife attack at Sydney church

Four people were injured in a stabbing attack at a church in Wakeley, a suburb of Sydney, Australia, on Monday (April 15). The assailant, who was arrested and is collaborating in the investigation, and the victims suffered “non-life-threatening injuries,” police said in a message published on X.

A video broadcast live on the social networks of the (Assyrian) church Christ The Good Shepherd shows a cleric delivering a sermon when he is attacked by a young man dressed in black. The faithful then rushed towards the attacker.

This attack comes after that which took place on Saturday in a shopping center in Sydney. A man suffering from psychiatric problems fatally stabbed six people and injured a dozen others.

Knife attacks are rare in Australia, a country of about 26 million people with some of the strictest gun and knife laws in the world.
