Odense (dpa / lsw) - After 63 games without defeat across all competitions, the series of handball players of the SG BBM Bietigheim in the Champions League has broken. The German champion lost 24:31 (12:14) at Odense Handbold in Denmark on Sunday afternoon. It was the first defeat since March 2021. However, the SG is still at the top of Group A.
The Bietigheim team struggled on the offensive and ran after a deficit early on (11:7/15.). Although coach Markus Gaugisch's team fought their way up to the break, the hosts extended their lead again after the break. The SG received too many time penalties, played with too little speed and rarely used their chances. The best thrower of the game was Mie Højlund with ten goals, for the SG the German international Julia Maidhof was the most successful with seven goals.
