Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Many postal customers in the southwest could again wait in vain for letters and packages. The Verdi union called for warning strikes again on Monday. Temporary work stoppages are planned, among other things, in the regions of Karlsruhe, Pforzheim, Bruchsal, Mannheim, Rhein-Neckar and Stuttgart, as the union announced. "On Tuesday, the warning strikes in the country will be significantly expanded," the union announced on Monday morning. The focus on both days is delivery.
More than 2,500 union members are expected to attend a rally in Stuttgart on Tuesday. "We are now on strike so that there will be a result on February 9th that compensates for the massive financial burden on employees caused by inflation and that takes into account the billions in profits made by Deutsche Post AG," said Verdi official Andreas Henze. A total of around 11,000 employees in the country have already taken part in work stoppages in the past few weeks.
The union demands 15 percent more money for a contract period of one year. The company rejects this, arguing that wage increases cannot be passed on through price increases because the German market is regulated. Negotiations continue on February 8th and 9th.
