Baden-Württemberg: Another cyber attack on the Southwest Police website

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - The website of the Baden-Württemberg police force has again become the target of a cyber attack within a few days. This was repelled on Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of the Interior in Stuttgart told the German Press Agency. The pages were not available for a short time, but now again without restrictions. Südwestrundfunk first reported on the new attack.

Like last Thursday, it was a so-called DDoS attack (Denial of Service) or overload attack, the spokeswoman said. Significantly more network resources are used than usual, for example due to a large number of page views.

The spokeswoman emphasized that it was not a hacker attack. No data was lost, no damage was done, and no one had penetrated the police IT system.

However, the perpetrators had fundamentally changed their approach compared to Thursday: It was more difficult to recognize the pattern behind the attack. The authorities had taken further measures, said the spokeswoman - without giving details.

On Thursday, among other things, the website www.polizei-bw.de was not accessible for hours because the authorities had switched off the server as a precaution following the attack. At that time, there had been cyber attacks on several facilities throughout Germany.
