Baden-Württemberg: economy in the southwest calls for quick help

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Economic and financial organizations from the southwest have asked for faster help from the federal and state governments. Bankruptcies and loan defaults due to unpayable electricity and gas bills must be avoided, it said on Friday in a joint statement by the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Crafts, Industry and Commerce and the Association of Savings Banks and Cooperatives.

If it takes a long time in the federal government and companies continue to be left alone with no prospects, the organizations expect effective support measures from the state government. "A pointer to Berlin is not enough," the statement said.

The organizations see the country's prosperity in jeopardy. Anyone who persists in postponing urgently needed decisions is sinning against what generations have built up, said State Crafts President Rainer Reichhold, with a view to politics. The federal rescue package must be put into concrete terms as soon as possible, demanded Wolfgang Grenke, President of the Baden-Württemberg Association of Chambers of Industry and Commerce.

The federal government wants to protect consumers and companies from high energy prices due to the Ukraine war with a package of measures worth billions. Gas and electricity prices should be capped. There should be liquidity and equity support for companies. Details are still open.
