Baden-Württemberg: EnBW continues to significantly increase gas prices

Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) - Just a few months after the last sharp increase, the energy supplier EnBW is continuing to massively raise gas prices. As of December 1st, prices for basic services will rise by an average of 38 percent, as the company announced in Karlsruhe on Tuesday. In July, the increase was almost 35 percent. "As soon as the proposals of the commission of experts set up by the federal government to cushion the rise in energy costs have been specifically designed and anchored in law, EnBW will take them into account in pricing," it said.

The costs for which EnBW procures gas are still very high as a result of the Russian war of aggression in the Ukraine, the supplier explained. The previous average price on the wholesale markets for the current year has increased fivefold, at times even tenfold. Even after the price increase, the gas price at EnBW is still below the market average.

According to a sample calculation, a household with an annual consumption of 20,000 kilowatt hours must expect additional costs of around 64 euros gross per month. The value added tax, which has fallen to seven percent since the beginning of October, is already included and is dampening the increase. Unlike other providers, EnBW had not yet collected the gas procurement levy that had since been withdrawn. Therefore, there would be no changes in the gas price.
