Baden-Württemberg: Europa-Park and car logisticians are investing in a solar system

Rust (dpa / lsw) - Europa-Park and the car logistics company Mosolf are investing a total of around 30 million euros in a large solar system in Kippenheim, Baden. There, parking spaces from Mosolf are to be roofed over an area of more than 200,000 square meters with photovoltaic systems, as the two companies announced on Wednesday in Rust (Ortenaukreis). This area corresponds to about 28 soccer fields.

The planned system should go into operation the year after next and produce around 25 gigawatt hours of electricity, reported the founder and shareholder of Europa-Park, Roland Mack. The project is the largest photovoltaic roofing in Germany.

About half of the energy generated is intended for Europa-Park. Germany's largest amusement park will thus become less dependent on previous energy sources and can "supply itself self-sufficiently with renewable electricity, especially in the high season summer months," explained Mack. The expansion of photovoltaic car park roofs is "an important building block in the context of energy security," Europa-Park quoted partner and CEO Jörg Mosolf as saying.

According to earlier information, the Mosolf Group generates electricity for around 5,000 households in Rackwitz, Saxony, with parking lot roofs. The company is headquartered in Kirchheim/Teck in the district of Esslingen. It employs around 3500 people.
