Baden-Württemberg: Example Argentina: Kreuzer calls for better defense work

Karlsruhe (dpa/lsw) - Sports manager Oliver Kreuzer expects a clear increase in the new year from the professionals of the second division football club Karlsruher SC, which is in danger of being relegated. "On the one hand we need more efficiency and on the other hand we have to defend better," said the 57-year-old in an interview with the German Press Agency. "We create the most chances, but our finish is often inadequate. And the defensive work is sometimes really catastrophic. 30 goals conceded in 17 games is far too many. That's where we're putting the lever now in preparation." The newly crowned world champion Argentina serves as a role model for the people of Baden. "If you saw at the World Cup how the Argentines defended their goal with their lives - we have to get there!" said Kreuzer.

After the first half of the season, KSC is only one point ahead of the relegation zone. Nevertheless, Kreuzer is convinced of staying up. "There is no thought of the third division," said the ex-professional. He also strengthened his back again for coach Christian Eichner. "Eiche is still a great fit for this club and this team and there are no signs of wear and tear," emphasized Kreuzer.

Top scorer Fabian Schleusener, whose contract expires in the summer, is also to be retained. "We want to extend the contract with Schleuse and are already in intensive talks," said Kreuzer about the striker, who has scored seven league goals so far this season. At the start of the second half of the season, KSC meets SC Paderborn on January 27th.
