Baden-Württemberg: Failed purchase of explosives: Swiss delivered

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Two men from Switzerland who allegedly wanted to illegally buy explosives in Stuttgart are now to be extradited to their homeland. This was announced by the public prosecutor's office, the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office and the Swiss Federal Prosecutor's Office on Thursday. The Swiss authorities have applied for the extradition of the duo. It had been approved by the German side. The suspects have been under investigation since the beginning of June on suspicion of conspiring to commit an explosion crime. The procedure will probably be handed over to Switzerland.

The Baden-Württemberg investigators arrested the men, who were 24 and 26 years old in June. Since then they have been in custody. The evidence so far suggested that the men wanted to use the explosives "presumably in a planned crime in a major Swiss city," the State Criminal Police Office said at the time. A political background can probably be ruled out.

A spokesman for the State Criminal Police Office did not want to give any further details when asked on Thursday. The authorities got on their trail through a tip and through investigations in the so-called Darknet, a hidden and anonymous part of the Internet. According to their own statements, they came across a user who wanted to buy explosives, among other things.
