Baden-Württemberg: Gentges demands information from the federal government on the situation in Iran

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In the discussion about a deportation stop for Iranians, Migration Minister Marion Gentges (CDU) called for information from the federal government. A spokeswoman for Gentges said on Friday in Stuttgart that the Federal Foreign Office did not currently have a new assessment of the situation in Iran as a basis for a possible freeze on deportations. An assessment of the situation by the federal government is expected in the near future.

Because of the demonstrations in Iran and the actions of the security forces there, the SPD-governed Lower Saxony had decided the day before to suspend deportations to the country. On Friday, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's department head, Christian level (SPD), followed suit. Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) appealed to the other federal states to follow this decision.

Currently, 1063 Iranians are living in Baden-Württemberg with an enforceable obligation to leave the country, as the spokeswoman announced. In the current year 2022, one person was deported to Iran. Last year it was two people. No deportation to Iran is currently pending. 874 Iranians live with residence permits in the southwest.
