Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Due to a changing clinical landscape and new requirements for emergency care, the state is reorganizing the stationing of rescue helicopters. The Ministry of the Interior would like to provide information about the new locations at a press conference in Stuttgart today.
In order to be able to guarantee rapid rescue by helicopter for everyone in an emergency in the future, the ministry commissioned an expert report. For this, scientists from the Institute for Emergency Medicine and Medical Management at the University of Munich came to the conclusion that the number of rescue helicopters in the country should be increased from eight to ten. Three helicopters are also to be relocated to another location in the future. As a third measure, the report envisages keeping two helicopters available around the clock instead of just one in the future.
It should be possible to reach injured people by helicopter within 20 minutes during the day and in no more than 30 minutes at night. In addition, this should ensure that no more than an hour elapses between the emergency call and the admission to a clinic for diagnoses such as a heart attack or stroke.
