Baden-Württemberg: Mozart's "Violin School" in the Baden State Library

Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - The Baden State Library in Karlsruhe was given the "Violin School" by Leopold Mozart from private ownership. It is the second edition of the work from 1770. The book with text and sheet music is considered an essential source for music practice in the 18th century and a standard work for violin lessons, as a spokeswoman announced on Tuesday.

Leopold Mozart (1719-1787) was the father of the famous composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and himself a musician, music teacher and composer. He came from Augsburg and worked mainly in Salzburg, but also traveled to Baden-Württemberg. As part of the so-called child prodigy journey, he had his son and daughter Maria Anna play music at courtly residences and public academies. Ulm, Ludwigsburg, Bruchsal, Schwetzingen, Heidelberg, Mannheim and Donaueschingen were among the stations.
