Baden-Württemberg: Stuttgart judges should be relieved of AI

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - In view of the flood of complaints about the diesel scandal in the car industry, the judiciary in Baden-Württemberg is now resorting to unusual means. In the future, artificial intelligence (AI) will be used to relieve the Stuttgart judges. "After testing the prototype, the system will now be introduced in the four diesel senates of the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court," said Baden-Württemberg Minister of Justice Marion Gentges of the "Stuttgarter Zeitung" and the "Stuttgarter Nachrichten" (Monday).

Because of the diesel lawsuits against Mercedes, among others, over 13,000 appeals are pending at the Stuttgart Higher Regional Court alone. That can hardly be managed without technical help, according to the Ministry of Justice. Above all, the AI should filter out those cases from the briefs that are stored in the same way. The plaintiffs are owners of diesel vehicles in which the companies are said to have installed illegal defeat devices in the exhaust gas cleaning system.
