Bavaria: Association President: Many schools are questioning ski camps

Munich (dpa / lby) - Many Bavarian schools are questioning the ski camp for their students. One reason is the sharp rise in costs, said Simone Fleischmann, President of the Bavarian Teachers' Association. "In times of high inflation, money isn't so loose." For equipment, ski pass, accommodation, meals and transport, several hundred euros usually come together.

The ecological aspect should also be considered, said Fleischmann. It's snowing less and less in the Alps - in order to still attract ski tourists, the slope operators have to use artificial snow more often. "That doesn't fit with the principle of sustainability that many schools have committed to."

In addition, the pandemic has left large learning gaps. "We couldn't offer the students what they needed for two to two and a half years," said Fleischmann. "A lot of people ask: do we have to go to the ski camp right now?" The association president pleaded for teachers, parents and students to decide together which class trip they wanted and which was affordable for everyone.
