With an annual average of 235,851 unemployed, there were around 10 percent or 26,336 fewer unemployed in Bavaria in 2022 than in 2021, as the Bavarian regional office of the Federal Employment Agency in Nuremberg announced on Tuesday.

According to the information, the number of employees also developed positively. Last year, 5.86 million people in Bavaria were employed subject to social security contributions. In addition, the underemployment rate fell in 2022. Without taking short-time work into account, the rate fell to 4.1 percent compared to 2021.

The regional directorate is presenting its statistics on the development of the labor market in February this Wednesday. Experts anticipate a slight decline in the number of unemployed in Bavaria, with the rate remaining the same. In January, the number of unemployed in Bavaria rose by 14.5 percent. The unemployment rate rose 0.5 points to 3.6 percent according to data collected up to Jan. 12.
