Bavaria: Bavaria strengthens medical care in rural areas

Munich / Donauwörth (dpa / lby) - The Free State wants to motivate more doctors to settle in rural areas. The settlement promotion program has been running since 2012 and was further developed into a country doctor premium in 2021 - now the 1000th funding decision is being awarded. According to his spokesman, Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) wants to hand over the document to a pediatrician in Donauwörth (Donau-Ries district) next Thursday (December 22).

In 2022 alone, 116 branches and branches of practices were funded, the ministry announced on Friday (as of December 14). Among them were 74 family doctor and 26 psychotherapist practices. "I'm pleased that our offer has met with such great interest! Because it's very important that there is medical care close to home throughout Bavaria," said Holetschek.

General practitioners and specialists are supported with a one-time bonus of up to 60,000 euros. Psychotherapists can receive funding of up to 20,000 euros. According to the information, the prerequisite is that the doctors settle in communities with no more than 20,000 inhabitants that are not oversupplied. For child and adolescent psychiatrists, the limit is 40,000 inhabitants. The country doctor premium can also be applied for once when establishing medical care centers.
