Munich (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian Association of Cities fears major problems with the accommodation of refugees from Ukraine in the coming months. The situation in the Bavarian municipalities is already very tense, said the chairman of the city council, Straubing's mayor Markus Pannermayr (CSU), on Friday in the radio program "RadioWelt" on Bayern 2. Because Russia is specifically attacking the critical infrastructure in Ukraine, I reckon he in winter with a further increasing number of refugees. It is currently unclear whether there will be free capacity for this.
"I'm assuming that we will also have to rely on emergency solutions because the regular living space that would actually be provided for this is actually not available in quantity and quality," said Pannermayr. He called on the federal government, similar to 2015, to take on the entire cost of housing refugees.
Nationwide, there are fears that the number of refugees from Ukraine in winter could surpass the number of people who fled from countries in the Middle East in 2015. This would entail considerable financial and logistical problems in the housing situation, but also with childcare, for example.
