Aschau im Chiemgau (dpa / lby) - conservationists in Upper Bavaria have filed a lawsuit against modernizing the Kampenwandbahn. "We are seriously concerned about the sheer number of people who can now come up the mountain," said the chairman of the Rosenheim district group of the Bund Naturschutz Rainer Auer of the German Press Agency on Friday. Therefore, a lawsuit has now been filed with the Munich Administrative Court via the national group of the Bund Naturschutz. The "Bayerischer Rundfunk" previously reported on the lawsuit.
On the mountain near Aschau im Chiemgau (Rosenheim district), the existing cable car from the 1950s is to be modernized. Among other things, the new cabins should have eight instead of four seats; the transport capacity is to be tripled to around 1500 people per hour.
The conservationists not only fear so-called "overtourism", i.e. too many tourists. Another thorn in their side is a material ropeway, for which trees in a protective forest would have to be felled. They also criticize more planned special trips at night with party guests.
There have been debates about the railway for several months. The district office had approved the modernization in June. According to its own statements, the Bund Naturschutz now has ten weeks to formulate the pleas.
The Kampenwand attracts day trippers, paragliders, climbers and mountain bikers in summer. In winter there is skiing.
