Bavaria: Construction for "Landshut Wedding" begins

Landshut (dpa / lby) - Four months before the traditional history game "Landshut Wedding 1475" began on Monday. Among other things, a grandstand is to be set up on the tournament ground, the so-called Ringelstecherwiese, as the organizers of the "Die Förderer" association announced. The camp site, where visitors can watch the hustle and bustle of the Middle Ages, is also being prepared. Parking spaces will also be closed for construction. Several media reported about it.

From June 30th there will be a solemn wedding again. The festival actually takes place every four years. Because of the corona pandemic, the 2021 season was canceled and postponed to 2023.

Around 2,400 participants take part in the three-week spectacle. Around 850 roles will be filled. Prerequisites are: residence in the city or district of Landshut, club membership and hair length. After all, the hairstyles of the actors should correspond to the fashion of the Middle Ages. The selected applicants will be informed at the beginning of March. The most important roles - those of the bridal couple - are to be announced on March 10th.

The history game recreates the marriage of Duke George the Rich of Bavaria-Landshut to Hedwig of Poland in 1475. The "Landshut Wedding 1475" was included in the nationwide list of intangible UNESCO cultural heritage in 2018.
