Bavaria: Every fourth construction site has significant safety deficiencies

Munich (dpa / lby) - In unannounced inspections on construction sites, the trade supervisory authority in Upper Bavaria found numerous fundamental deficiencies. A total of 153 construction sites were checked, and work had to be temporarily stopped at 39 because of "danger to life and limb for employees", as the government of Upper Bavaria announced on Friday. The most common concern was a lack of fall protection.

In one case, roof work was carried out at a height of around ten meters without any fall protection. They had to be discontinued immediately. In some cases, self-made wooden ladders were also found that did not correspond to the state of the art.

The background to the controls in mid-October was that there had recently been several serious, and in some cases even fatal, accidents, according to the district government. The construction sites mostly involved building construction. In particular, scaffolding, excavations and ladders were inspected. District President Konrad Schober now wants to turn to the chambers and guilds and ask them to "remind their members to comply with the protection standards".
