"Too many truck drivers are still not following the rules despite the high risk of accidents or are driving defective vehicles," said Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU). In 45 cases, further driving had to be forbidden due to defects such as defective brakes, defective tires or the driver not taking enough breaks.

The accident statistics also show the need for further truck controls: According to the Ministry of the Interior, there were 17,129 accidents with trucks or buses across Bavaria in 2021, compared to 14,127 in 2020. In the first half of 2022, 47 people were involved in traffic accidents involving trucks died, in the first half of 2021 42 people died.
