Regensburg (dpa / lby) - The district court of Regensburg has sentenced four men to several years in prison for gang drug trafficking on a large scale. In the case of three, the court also ordered placement in a rehabilitation center on Tuesday.
The accused are said to have traded large quantities of drugs in the Upper Palatinate and thus achieved around 600,000 euros. A total of 230 kilograms of marijuana, cocaine and methamphetamine were involved. The public prosecutor's office based their allegations primarily on data from so-called crypto cell phones. In the course of the trial, the men had also made confessions.
The highest sentence, eight years and ten months in prison, was given to a man whom the court saw as the head of the gang. The presiding judge said he showed remorse and an understanding of guilt. After deducting the time spent in custody, the accused must first go to prison for a year before he can be sent to a rehabilitation center. After successful drug therapy, he could then be released on parole.
An accomplice was sentenced to seven years in prison. The court sentenced a third man to four years' imprisonment. The fourth defendant was sentenced to three years in prison for aiding and abetting drug trafficking.
The chamber made it clear that the crimes could have been proven even without confessions. However, the accused would have saved themselves and the court a lengthy process. Two of the men already accepted their verdict in the courtroom and decided not to appeal.
