Bavaria: Greens are again calling for the right to vote from the age of 16 in Bavaria

Munich (dpa / lby) - Once again, Bavaria's Greens in the state parliament are campaigning for a lowering of the voting age to 16 years. The application, which is to be finally discussed in the plenum on Thursday, has no chance of success. CSU, Free Voters and the AfD reject the request. In June 2018 and April 2019, the Greens unsuccessfully called for a lower voting age.

"Good politics is not a question of age" - that also applies to the age limit for the office of prime minister, said Green MP Johannes Becher on Wednesday. The rigid age limit of 40 years is completely out of date - other countries have successful heads of government who were significantly younger at the time of their election, such as Finland or New Zealand.

"The voting age must also be updated," emphasized his colleague Eva Lettenbauer. In future, young people from the age of 16 should be able to vote in state and local elections.
