Rosenheim (dpa / lby) - At the start of the carnival holidays there were several serious accidents in travel in Bavaria. On Saturday there was a lot more going on on the motorways than usual, on Sunday the traffic decreased, according to the police. Block handling was increasingly used in the Farchant and Füssen border tunnels to regulate traffic.

In Upper Franconia, a 48-year-old died in an accident on the A9. According to the police, the man drove his car into a semi-trailer truck without braking on Sunday night. When the emergency doctor arrived near Münchberg, the 48-year-old was already dead.

A man died in Middle Franconia on Saturday evening after being run over by a car. The rescue service could no longer resuscitate the 40-year-old on the B2 near Treuchtlingen (Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen district), the police said. It is now being determined whether the man fell off his bike or was hit by the car.

Five people were injured in a head-on collision on the B12 near Birkach (Ebersberg district). Three of them were taken to a hospital on Sunday night, the police said. A 61-year-old driver had entered the oncoming lane for an unknown reason and crashed into the car of a 54-year-old.
