Munich (dpa / lby) - According to an evaluation, men in Bavaria rarely go to cancer screening. Only one-fifth made use of the corresponding preventive care offers from their family doctor last year, as the Barmer health insurance company announced on Thursday for World Cancer Day (February 4). Only in Saarland were there even fewer men who made use of early cancer detection.
Men over the age of 45 can therefore take advantage of such an examination every year. Women and men over the age of 35 can have a skin cancer screening every two years.
According to Barmer, the decline in early detection is not solely due to the corona pandemic, when people refrained from visiting the doctor for fear of infection. Participation in these studies has been at a low level since 2010.
For this evaluation, Barmer analyzed the primary care screening examinations of men aged 45 and over. The data were extrapolated for this. Men in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania took advantage of an early detection examination most frequently.
