Bavaria: Minute of silence in the state parliament for Barbara Stamm

Munich (dpa / lby) - At the beginning of the plenary session on Wednesday, the state parliament commemorated the deceased former state parliament president Barbara Stamm. The incumbent President of the State Parliament, Ilse Aigner (CSU), praised her predecessor as the literal "Mother of the State - the first in Bavaria". "Barbara Stamm has been the soul of this House for years, the soul of our country. She was and will remain a beacon of democracy and humanity in Bavaria," said Aigner. Because Stamm was very clear in her attitude - courageous, courageous, combative and passionate: in her commitment to equal opportunities for women, for democracy, for freedom, for humanity and charity in society, emphasized Aigner.

Stamm, who was President of the State Parliament from 2008 to 2018, died last Wednesday at the age of 77 as a result of her cancer. Top politicians from all parties, from Bavaria and the federal government, praised Stamm as the "social conscience" of the CSU and "mother of Bavaria". This Friday, Stamm will be honored with a funeral ceremony in her hometown of Würzburg. A funeral reception is then planned in the Würzburg Residence. The mourning act in the cathedral is to be broadcast live on BR television.
