Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - Almost 240 residents of a Nuremberg retirement home have been without lights and heating for several hours due to a power failure. In order to try out an emergency generator, the employees switched the power to it on Saturday evening, as a fire department spokesman said on Sunday. The power supply then broke off because the unit was not working due to a defective switching element.
Almost 150 emergency services drove to the three affected buildings, including the technical relief organization, aid organizations and several fire brigades, it said. A woman was taken to a hospital as a precaution. The remaining residents were looked after and supplied with hot drinks by a fire engine. After about three and a half hours, the switching element was repaired.
