Bavaria: Replica of the Bamberg Psalter soon back in Regensburg

Regensburg/Bamberg (dpa/lby) - A replica of the famous Bamberg Psalter returns to Regensburg. As the Regensburg State Library announced, library manager Bernhard Lübbers received the facsimile from Bettina Wagner, head of the Bamberg State Library, on Monday. In the future, the replica of the Psalter can be viewed in the Regensburg State Library, it said.

In a complex process, employees of a Swiss publisher had reproduced all 208 sheets and the cover in a deceptively real way. According to the findings of scholars, the Bamberg Psalter was written in Regensburg around 1230 and contains 150 psalms and 15 full-page depictions of the life of Jesus Christ. Researchers used to believe that the Psalter originated in Bamberg, where the original has been kept for centuries.
