Bavaria: Sprinter Lückenkemper receives the Bavarian Sports Prize

Munich (dpa / lby) - Sprint European champion Gina Lückenkemper has been awarded the Bavarian Sports Prize 2022. The 25-year-old, who won gold over the 100 meters and the 4x100 meter relay at the European Championships in Munich in the summer, received the award in the "Summer Dream of the Year" category. Team colleague Rebekka Haase gave the eulogy for the track and field athlete who lives in Bamberg on Saturday.

At the gala in Munich's BMW Welt, Luckenkemper, lugers Tobias Arlt, Tobias Wendl and Natalie Geisenberger as well as para-surfer Ben Neumann were among the honored. The day before, Markus Söder had already presented the "Personal Prize of the Bavarian Prime Minister" to national soccer player Thomas Müller from FC Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian Sports Prize has been awarded by the Bavarian State Government since 2002 for outstanding sporting achievements as well as to people and initiatives. The winners were honored at this year's gala event by laudators such as triathlete Anne Haug or Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Hermann.
