The new regional timetable will apply in Bavaria from Sunday. There are numerous changes.
Munich (dpa / lby) - Next Sunday, the annual timetable change will come into effect in Bavarian regional and S-Bahn traffic. This year there are particularly big changes around Augsburg, as the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG) announced on Wednesday. There, the operators Go-Ahead and the Bavarian Regiobahn (BRB) take over the lines previously operated by DB Regio as the Fugger Express. But things are also changing in other areas of Bavaria.
According to the BEG, the white and blue Go-Ahead trains will be running around Augsburg from Sunday. Some of the new vehicles from Siemens will have more than 1,000 seats. There are also improvements to the timetable, it said, but given the lack of train drivers, some of these could only be implemented in the course of the coming year. What is new is the continuous connection between Munich and Würzburg via Augsburg, Treuchtlingen and Ansbach every two hours. In addition, there should be a 30-minute cycle between Augsburg and Dinkelscherben later in 2023.
On the Riesbahn there is an hourly service at the weekend. The BRB takes over the booster trips of the Fugger-Express from Gessertshausen. The number of trips per week will increase from 13 to 22. In Würzburg, the new Würzburg-Heidingsfeld Ost station will also go into operation on Sunday.
Agilis remains the operator on the Ulm-Ingolstadt-Regensburg-Plattling Danube Valley Railway, although there are also changes here. There should be additional frequency increases around Regensburg, Ingolstadt and Ulm during rush hour.
In the regional train service between Munich and Nuremberg there are additional connections on weekends and in the evening. Between Nuremberg and Augsburg there is a better connection for the Altmühltal in the late evening. Night traffic on the S-Bahn Nuremberg will also be expanded on Saturdays and Sundays. Lines S1, S2, S3, S4 and S6 then run until at least 2 a.m., sometimes even until 4 a.m.
Between Zwiesel and Grafenau, the cycle will be shortened to one-hour journeys once the expansion work there has been completed.
In the Munich area, the S-Bahn cycle is condensed on the outer branches from Monday to Friday. The almost continuous 20-minute cycle means around 775,000 additional train kilometers per year, explained the BEG. In future, more regional trains will stop in Fürstenfeldbruck.
Between Traunstein and Ruhpolding, the BRB takes over the operation of the Southeast Bavarian Railway. The timetable will hardly change there, but new, barrier-free trains with higher capacity will be used in the future. This is why there is no additional bus service there in the morning.
