Munich (dpa/lby) - A good two months before the deadline in Bavaria, only around 14 percent of the property tax returns to be submitted have been received by the tax authorities. Around 6.5 million declarations have to be submitted, there are so many so-called economic units, a spokesman for the Ministry of Finance told the "Main-Post" (Friday). By the beginning of this week, however, only around 908,000 property tax returns had been received. Nevertheless, the spokesman was optimistic: "It is to be expected that towards the end of the submission period, at the end of October, the number of declarations submitted will increase sharply."
The taxpayers' association had recently called for an extension of the deadline for the property tax return into next year, and Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner had already made corresponding suggestions. The background is that from 2025 a new property tax calculation is to apply.
For this purpose, almost 36 million properties in Germany have to be revalued nationwide. This is done on the basis of information that owners must submit. A deadline of July 1st to October 31st was set for this.
