In their pleading at the Munich Higher Regional Court, the federal prosecutor's office had applied for life imprisonment - including for attempted murder and dangerous bodily harm in three cases. The victims of the attack joined the claim as joint plaintiffs. The verdict is expected to follow at the end of next week. The trial against the alleged perpetrator began around two months ago.

On November 6, 2021, the then 27-year-old is said to have suddenly attacked four men with a knife in an ICE on the way to Nuremberg and seriously injured three of them. The main issue in the trial was whether the alleged perpetrator acted out of an Islamist motive and how his mental state at the time of the crime should be assessed.

Three psychiatric experts agreed in the process that the accused was not mentally ill. Federal prosecutor Silke Ritzert said on Thursday that the man committed the crime "in a state of full criminal responsibility". According to the federal prosecutor, the "national of Palestine" grew up in Syria and came to Germany about eight years ago.

During the course of the hearing, the victims, witnesses and various experts were heard. At the beginning of the proceedings, the court had scheduled 24 days of hearings until December 23 - then the verdict is expected to be announced.
