Biden condemns Trump's inaction on 'medieval hell' on Capitol storm

"For three hours, the defeated former President of the United States watched all of this happen while sitting in the comfort of the private dining room adjacent to the Oval Office," the Democrat said. "The police officers were heroes that day. Donald Trump lacked the courage to act."

The President added, "You cannot be pro-insurgency and pro-police. You cannot be pro-insurgency and pro-democracy. You cannot be pro-insurgency and pro-America."

Last week, the parliamentary inquiry into the January 6, 2021 Capitol storming accused Trump of sitting idle for three hours during the violence instead of calling on his supporters to leave Congress. Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger said Trump made a conscious "decision not to act" because the "mob" implemented his plan.

Radical Trump supporters had stormed the Capitol when Biden's victory in the November 2020 presidential election was to be officially confirmed there. Shortly before, Trump had called on his supporters in an incendiary speech to march to the Capitol and to fight "whatever the hell". The storming of the Capitol with five dead and around 140 injured police officers caused horror worldwide and is considered a black day in the history of US democracy.
