Did he shoot his friend?: A$AP Rocky pleads not guilty

A$AP Rocky was arrested in Los Angeles just weeks before the birth of his first child with Rihanna. The rapper is said to have shot a friend multiple times in late 2020. He is now denying the allegations in court.

US rapper A$AP Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers, has been charged with assault. He is said to have shot his former boyfriend during an argument in Hollywood in November. According to The Independent, the 33-year-old testified in a Los Angeles court and pleaded not guilty.

The rapper, dressed in a black suit, is said to have only spoken at the appointment himself to confirm his name and acknowledge that his rights had been read to him. Singer Rihanna's partner has been charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm.

A$AP Rocky was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on April 20, just weeks before the birth of their child with Rihanna. The couple had arrived on a private plane from Barbados. The musician was later released on $550,000 bail.

The alleged shooting happened on November 6 last year, according to People magazine. After a "heated discussion in Hollywood" and the "ensuing confrontation", Rocky reportedly fired twice in the direction of the victim, who is said to have been slightly injured in the incident.

Rihanna was "completely shocked" during the arrest at the airport, the US site "Hollywood Life" quoted an insider immediately after the incident. The singer and fashion designer "never thought she would be involved in anything like this, especially with her pregnancy and everything else that's going on." Nevertheless, she stands by her boyfriend, who has to appear in court again on November 2nd.
