Richard Gere actually wanted to spend a few nice days in Mexico and celebrate his wife's milestone birthday. But even before departure, the Hollywood star is not doing well. On vacation then the shock: Gere has to go to the hospital with a bad coughing fit.

Hollywood superstar Richard Gere has been hospitalized with pneumonia. As the US portal "TMZ" reports, the 73-year-old is currently on family vacation in Mexico. He was already slightly ill before the trip, but then had severe coughing fits and admitted himself to a clinic.

There, the "Pretty Woman" star was diagnosed with pneumonia. He had to spend the night in the hospital for observation. According to the sources, the actor has since been released and is now undergoing antibiotic treatment. He's doing "much better" again.

Richard Gere is currently with his wife Alejandra near the seaside resort of Nuevo Vallarta to celebrate her 40th birthday there. The two have been together since 2014 and got married in 2018. They have two sons together.

Alejandra posted a picture with her two children from the beach on her Instagram account and alluded to Gere's illness in her comment: "Thanks for all the birthday wishes. After almost three weeks in which everyone in our family was sick, I'm fine finally much better today!" In an Instagram story, you can even see Gere taking a walk.

By the way: In an interview with the magazine "Hola", Gere's wife spoke about the big age difference: "He promised me at least 20 good years! But I have to admit that he has much more energy than me, is much more active. It's difficult to keep up with him."
